My review and perspective on model: S7210 vacuum cleaner

This is the Miele S7210 Twist Upright Vacuum Cleaner Review please check the reviews page for a comparison of other vacuum cleaners.

Miele has made a name for themselves as sort of the BMW of vacuum cleaners. They're not the best vacuum cleaners on the market, but they are quite comfortable to use. They do a better job than most vacuums in their price range, but a lot of their comfort features hold them back from being the best in any one category.

The closest thing I can come up with in terms of price range, and cleaning power would be the Oreck Insight, or Oreck Pilot. Each of them have their advantages and disadvantages. Neither of the Oreck's have a built in hose, so you'd need a separate canister vacuum cleaner for jobs that require a hose. The Miele S7210 Twist comes with a built in hose to help you get those hard to reach places. The Miele S7210 Twist is noticeably heavier than either of the Oreck's though. The Miele S7210 Twist also has a separate drive motor for the brush roll so it can be completely turned off while still using the suction motor at full speed, the Oreck's offer a low speed, but you cannot turn off the suction motor separately from the brush roll motor as they are driven by the same motor. This would be an advantage for people with a lot of hard wood flooring in their home. Suction and cleaning ability are about even between the machines, I did rate the Miele higher in cleaning ability only because of its advantage with hard wood floors, and because of the hose attachment. All in all the Miele S7210 Twist is a great residential machine, but I would never recommend it for commercial use, where the Oreck's could be used in either situation just as comfortably.

This is a bagged machine, which many people will find to be much more pleasant than the ever so common dirt cup style bagless vacuum cleaners today. While the thought of never buying bags again has lured many people in, they soon discover that emptying a dirt cup is much more messy than they ever wanted it to be, no matter what they do to reduce the dust cloud it always seems to escape and end up on everything.

There is one more thing about the Miele S7210 Twist that anyone considering a purchase should be aware of. All of the S7 line use the same motors, and basic design. The only real difference between this machine and the Miele S7 Jazz model is that the Jazz comes equiped with a head light, and an activated carbon HEPA filter (can be purchased separately and equipped into the S7 Twist if you so desire). Personally I find HEPA filters to be over rated, the only reason I could see to spend the extra $50 to equip one into this vacuum is that Miele adds an extra layer that you won't find in many vacuum cleaners with the activated carbon (which for those of you who know absorbs odors up to 10 times better than baking soda). That extra layer of odor absorbing ability is great for people with pets, or who smoke. Lights on vacuum cleaners are great if you have inadequate lighting (like our upstairs living room that is lit only by lamps) or for dark corners, but many consider them a luxury at best so you weigh your options there with this vacuum vs. the Miele S7 Jazz.

Model: S7210 Product Description

Miele has been producing floor care products renown for their quality and durability for over 80 years. Now with more than a million vacuums leaving its Bielefeld, Germany plant each year, Miele is the largest family owned and operated floor care manufacturer in the world. A high quality, world class product takes shape in the hands of skilled line workers at Miele. With care, concentration and respectful attention to detail, each S7 vacuum cleaner is crafted. S7210 Twist (Royal Blue) Upright Vacuum Cleaner The primary cleaning force behind any vacuum cleaner is its suction motor. As with all Miele floor care products, the S7 is equipped with a strong 1,200 watt Miele-made Vortex Motor System. In addition to its power, the SwivelNeck makes the S7 so maneuverable it can even be laid flat to the floor, which makes getting under beds and other low furnishings easier than ever before. Thorough yet gentle cleaning of deep-pile carpeting even when the depth of pile varies. This is why Miele S7 offers an innovative automatic height adjustment feature. The key component is the electrobrush. The electrobrush has a unique roller brush assembly (the roller brush is the agitator bar that, when spinning, separates carpet fibers allowing the suction power of the vacuum to lift dust and debris lodged deep down in the carpeting) which is flexible and spring-loaded to adapt to different carpet heights and floor coverings. The electrobrush follows the contour of the floor, reaching dust particles found in the depths of deep pile carpeting while the floor head always maintains optimal surface contact allowing consistent air flow. The height adjustment on Miele's S7 is truly automatic requiring absolutely no manual intervention. Miele S7 is gentle on your carpets, penetrating the pile only to the depth necessary. And thanks to its own powerful 4,800 RPM motor, the roller brush can be turned off separately from the machine.

The S7210 is a Residential vacuum designed for use in the Residential environment. I have reviewed it accordingly, the price point of the S7210 is set for the Residential industry which should be taken into consideration when purchasing or thinking about purchasing this vacuum. Commercial vacuum cleaners may be built to last longer and endure more abuse, but are more expensive and may be lacking some of the luxuries (such as light weight, or low noise) that you are accustomed to. On the contrary Residential vacuums are made at lower price points, lower quality, but are often lighter and quieter to use.
